Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chairman of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, spoke during the health legislation markup today in support of Health Profession Opportunity Grants (HPOGs) to urge passage of his legislation, the Promoting Health Careers in Community and Technical Colleges Act (H.R. 3823). His bill would ensure that technical and community colleges, like the Alamo Colleges District, can continue to host these successful programs. Shortly after his remarks this morning, the Ways and Means Committee passed Rep. Doggett’s legislation out of committee in a legislative package reauthorizing HPOGs, the Pathways to Health Careers Act (H.R. 3398).

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), joined by 59 original cosponsors, introduced the Equitable Student Aid Access Act. The legislation substantively simplifies the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, used by more than 13 million students per year. The bill would also increase direct access to financial aid and empower students and their families to make financially-informed decisions about the cost of college.

Austin, T.X. – Tomorrow, Saturday, October 12, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett will join Austin ISD, The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, and College Forward to hold a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) event at Akins Early College High School. With FAFSA experts on hand, high school seniors and their families are invited to come and fill out the FAFSA to ensure that every student is applying for financial aid. In 2018, high school graduates missed out on $2.6 billion in free assistance for college because they did not submit a FAFSA.
