Immigration
Our immigration system should reflect American values of fairness, dignity, and opportunity—not fear, cruelty, or political gamesmanship. Instead of building walls, we should be building bridges—connecting families, strengthening communities, and growing our economy.
The Trump administration’s assault on immigrant communities continues today, from mass visa revocations to unconstitutional raids, detentions, and efforts to punish students and silence dissent. These actions don’t make us safer—they destabilize neighborhoods, tear families apart, and undermine the very freedoms our nation claims to stand for.
I strongly oppose these policies and have taken action to demand accountability. I’ve stood against unconstitutional ICE enforcement tactics and fought back against efforts to weaponize immigration agencies for political retaliation. I’ve spoken out, pushed for oversight, and joined formal congressional demands for transparency and justice.
I stand with our Dreamers—young people who contribute so much to our communities and know no other home. I am a sponsor of the American Dream and Promise Act, which would offer a pathway to lawful permanent residency and, ultimately, citizenship for those who meet educational or work-based criteria. During Donald Trump’s first term, I raised this issue with him directly—and I opposed any funding bill that left Dreamers behind. That hasn’t changed.
Our Nation was built by immigrants and enriched by their contributions. We must uphold the promise etched on the Statue of Liberty—to welcome the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free—and reject the politics of fear and exclusion. It's time to fix our broken immigration system with humane, comprehensive reform that reflects who we are and who we aspire to be.
