Today, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, spoke out against the Republican-created health care crisis. After previously rejecting Rep. Doggett’s amendment to maintain the tax credits that help millions of families afford ACA plans, Republicans shut down the government for weeks, and waited all year to eventually offer a bill that replaces ObamaCare with NothingCare.

Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) led colleagues in requesting immediate answers from State Secretary Marco Rubio regarding the Trump Administration’s approach to U.S. foreign assistance. They were joined by 120 House members and 5 Senators. After shuttering USAID and rescinding most of its funding, the Trump Administration had $1.8 billion in remaining appropriated funds to which it has sought a $2.9 billion addition to establish the America First Opportunity Fund for “flexible” foreign aid spending. This would purportedly be used toward vaguely defined initiatives advancing Trump’s “America First” agenda.

Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, sought answers from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Dr. Oz concerning CMS’s response to agent and broker fraud in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace. His action follows alarming findings in a new, nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealing persistent failure by the Trump Administration to identify and prevent fraud.
“GAO has revealed Trump’s permissive response to extensive fraud caused by insurance broker/agent wrongdoing. The remedy is not to deny a mother access to care for her sick child. What we need is effective law enforcement and less Trump coddling and pardoning of offenders ,” said Rep. Doggett. “Yelling “fraud” while empowering criminals solves nothing and will harm many. As usual, House Republicans fear any meaningful oversight of the Trump regime.”

Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, introduced the Health Savings Accounts (HSA) Consumer Protection Act to prevent the misuse of these accounts and to implement consumer protection guardrails against misleading junk fees. As they seek to undermine the Affordable Care Act, Republicans are promoting expanded HSA tax shelters that benefit the wealthy, while tying working families to high-deductible plans that can leave many unable to afford a visit to the doctor. While an independent analysis found that nearly 60% of the value of ACA tax credits benefit families earning 200% or less than the federal poverty line (about $64,000 for a family of four); nearly half of the value of HSAs benefit households earning over $200,000.

"To borrow from Mark Twain, the reports of my death, politically, are greatly exaggerated. This federal court order means that I have a renewed opportunity to continue serving the only town I have ever called home, as democracy faces greater challenges than at any point in my lifetime. CD-37, which I represent; CD-35, which Congressman Casar represents; and all other existing Texas congressional districts will remain unchanged for 2026. This is very good news for Texans, who should be entitled to accessible and accountable representation. While Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott are appealing directly to the U.S. Supreme Court, I am hopeful about the final outcome, likely announced this month, since even a Trump-appointed trial judge ruled against the Trump gerrymander.”

Washington, D.C.—As Americans struggle with an unstable economy due to President Trump’s chaotic policies and large corporations exploit lax rules in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to outsource good-paying jobs abroad, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) led more than 100 of his Democratic House colleagues in urging U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer to strengthen the agreement to support job creation and economic growth, clean manufacturing, and a livable climate. Specifically, the members call for the original USMCA to be renegotiated to achieve strengthened environmental enforcement standards to ensure clean air and water while creating a level playing field.
