Millions from American Rescue Plan Estimated for Austin-Area Higher Education

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) announced preliminary estimates of funding that show strong promise of real relief from the American Rescue Plan to help both Texas students and Austin-area higher education institutions.

"This is a true Rescue Plan for many students, who will receive at least half of new federal funding for emergency financial aid grants to stay in school, as well as for our area universities, who have incurred substantial pandemic-related costs and revenue losses," said Congressman Doggett. "Our commitment to higher education reflects our support for both individual student achievement and our need for a highly educated, competitive workforce."

The preliminary Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) estimates from the American Rescue Plan to local institutions are as follows:

  • Texas State University $91,252,000
  • University of Texas at Austin $85,475,000
  • Austin Community College $58,237,000
  • Huston ‐ Tillotson University $4,953,000
  • St. Edwards's $11,309,000

Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund totals are expected to be finalized in coming days by the U.S. Department of Education.
