Washington—TheDepartment of Education announced today the preliminary Title I allocations forschool districts in central and south Texas for the 2013-2014 school year. Thenumber for each district reflects both the five percent cut required by theautomatic spending cuts that went into effect on March 1 and changes inenrollment.

Since 2009, the American Opportunity Tax Credit has helped students seekinghigher education after high school. Originally authored by CongressmanDoggett and enacted as part of the 2009 Recovery Act, the American OpportunityTax Credit was extended through 2017 as part of the year-end budget deal. In his Budget, President Obama has proposed making the credit permanent.
