Washington, D.C. – Today, we mark five years since the fatal hot air balloon crash that took the lives of 16 people near Lockhart on July 30, 2016. The Lockhart crash constituted the deadliest commercial balloon crash in our Nation’s history, and the worst aviation disaster in America since 2009.

Washington, D.C. – Today, marks 56 years since President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Social Security Amendments of 1965, at the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence, Missouri, to create the Medicare and Medicaid programs that have provided health security and dignified care for our seniors and vulnerable neighbors in the decades since.

They explained who can expect payments automatically and how much is coming—as well as how parents who do not normally file a tax return can ensure they do not miss out on these important payments and get free, bilingual help from Foundation Communities. Washington, D.C. – Ahead of President Trump’s trip with Governor Abbott to Hidalgo County this week, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) led all Democratic members of the Texas delegation in an effort urging Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to protect the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Funds available for Texas under the American Rescue Plan—and ensure that Governor Abbott cannot nefariously divert recovery funds into his sideshow of building portions of Trump’s ill-fated wall. Governor Abbott has directed that $250 million be taken from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a “down payment” for the wall and as of last Wednesday, he reported having raised only $459,000 in private donations for the wall.
