Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) questioned the Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan in a Budget Committee hearing, after Secretary Azar declined to testify. Rep. Doggett asked Deputy Secretary Hargan why the Trump Administration’s budget declines to invest in lowering the price of prescription drugs or empowering Medicare to negotiate, as President Trump called for when he was Candidate Trump. Specifically, Rep. Doggett asked about the overdose prevention drug naloxone and was told by the Trump Administration witness that there was no affordability problem. Doggett stated: “It is difficult to agree on how to solve the problem of high prescription drug prices when Trump’s HHS does not even acknowledge the crisis exists.”

Washington, DC — In reaction to the submission of Special Counsel Mueller’s report this evening to Attorney General William P. Barr, Congressman Doggett released the below statement. Last month, Congressman Doggett joined Congressman Cicilline to author legislation to ensure that the Attorney General cannot impede public release of a Special Counsel’s report. The Special Counsel Transparency Act is the House companion to a bill introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Doggett led an effort, joined by other Members, urging Customs and Border Protection to share information with Congress about Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) recipients who have faced obstacles upon their arrival in the United States or were turned back on the way here. The letter, attached, was endorsed by RAICES, International Refugee Assistance Project, Human Rights First, and Veterans for American Ideals.

Last week, Democratic Representative Lloyd Doggett of Texas and Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island introduced the No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing Act and the Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act. These bills aim to close loopholes stemming from the 2017 GOP tax bill that incentivize companies to offshore their assets overseas—or at least to make it appear that their profits were earned outside the U.S. Doggett and Whitehouse introduced similar legislation last year.
