Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Doggett led an effort, joined by other Members, urging Customs and Border Protection to share information with Congress about Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) recipients who have faced obstacles upon their arrival in the United States or were turned back on the way here. The letter, attached, was endorsed by RAICES, International Refugee Assistance Project, Human Rights First, and Veterans for American Ideals.

Doggett began by noting the Secretary’s prior non-responsiveness on several matters. After the hearing, Doggett added, “What he said today was little more than mumble jumble doubletalk.”

Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), a member of the Ways and Means Committee, and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), a member of the Finance Committee, introduced the No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing Act and the Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act. Under the Trump Tax law, companies that ship jobs and invest overseas are eligible for special tax rates that may be half the domestic corporate tax rate and possibly even tax-free. The No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing Act would level the playing field for domestic companies by ensuring that multinationals pay the same tax rate on profits earned abroad as they do in the United States, ending these new tax incentives to outsource jobs and shift profits offshore.
