While We Impeach, Republican Appellate Judges Impede
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chair of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the Fifth Circuit Court's decision in Texas v. United States:
"Hardly coincidental that, as the Nation's attention is focused on the impeachment of Donald Trump, Republican appellate appointees impede access to health care for millions of Americans. The court is returning some issues for further consideration by a trial court that has already made obvious its hostility to the Affordable Care Act. It is just a matter of time before that Fort Worth trial court will again invalidate the entire Act, including its protections for patients with pre-existing conditions.
Trump and his Republican enablers continue their assault on the patients who depend on the ACA. Colluding with indicted Texas Republican Attorney General Paxton, Trump turned to the courts to continue his sabotage after failing legislatively. Hopefully, there will be no ultimate Supreme Court ruling on this vital case until we have a new, humane president in 2021. Health care is on the ballot in November. We must prevail and make health care the first priority of a new Congress."
