TOMORROW: U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett to Tour Casa Mia, Discuss Federal Opioid Legislation to Help Families in Recovery
Washington, D.C. – House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee Chairman Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) announced this afternoon that he will tour Crosspoint, Inc.'s Casa Mia tomorrow, on Friday, January 31, at 1:30 P.M., directly after he gives the keynote speech at the Crosspoint, Inc. Community Restoration Luncheon. If you are interested in joining, please RSVP as soon as possible to kate.stotesbery@mail.house.gov or call 202-225-4865 to ensure that you are included on the cleared list.
Casa Mia is a partnership between Crosspoint and the UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing that provides housing and transitional residential programming for women with opioid use disorder who are pregnant and/or parenting and welcomes their young children to accompany them. Unlike some programs, it welcomes women who have pursued a variety of methods to recover, including medication-assisted treatment.
As Chair of the Health Subcommittee, Rep. Doggett has been a vocal advocate for legislation to reduce burdensome obstacles to medication-assisted treatment and led the charge on expanding access to health care and lowering the price of prescription drugs, including Naloxone. He is a leading sponsor of the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act, as he discussed with the San Antonio Current this fall.
What: Rep. Doggett will tour Casa Mia, meet with staff and families in the program, and discuss the need for federal legislation to break down barriers to accessing treatment.
When: 1:30 P.M. CST Tomorrow, Friday, January 31
Where:Casa Mia 2321 N Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212
