Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin), Chair of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, releases the following statement regarding the 2022 Social Security Trustees Report and 2022 Medicare Trustees Report:

“This is encouraging news for all of us truly committed to assuring Social Security and Medicare for future generations without reducing benefits. To strengthen and extend the solvency of Medicare, Congress should adopt legislation I am offering to ensure that revenues originally intended for the Medicare Trust Fund go there and to close loopholes that allow some to avoid Medicare tax contributions. Taking these reasonable steps would extend Medicare solvency by about another decade.”
