Washington, D.C. – Today, after The United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack released the executive summary of its final report and referred criminal charges against Donald Trump to the Justice Department, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) released the following statement:
“This was so much more than a single day’s deadly, destructive riot. Like other insurrectionists already convicted of seditious conspiracy, Trump attempted to overthrow the government—to throw a dagger in the heart of our democracy.
To cling to power, he has been willing to abandon democracy and terminate our Constitution. Like any other criminal, he must be held accountable, despite the many Republicans who have remained so soft on such corrosive crime.”
He added: “The Committee has done an outstanding job in fulfilling its responsibilities, despite the many ways that Trump and House Republican members have tried to subvert it.”
