Shall Means Shall and Stall Means Stall: Congressman Doggett Reacts to Washington Post Disclosure of IRS Memo
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Doggett (D-TX), senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, commented on the Washington Post's disclosure of the internal IRS memo regarding Ways and Means authority to obtain President Trump's tax returns:
"Treasury already had 8 pages of legal advice when Secretary Mnuchin claimed he couldn't answer my March 7 hearing questions and with his multiple subsequent excuses. Because no amount of legal advice will stop the lawlessness and lies, Congress should use all of our powers to enforce compliance, including fines and confinement. ‘Shall' means ‘shall,' and ‘stall' means ‘stall.' It's long past time for Congress to stop letting the Trump Administration run out the clock on any accountability for its continued abuse of power."
