Rep. Doggett’s Statement on Speaker McCarthy’s Impeachment Inquiry

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, whose Chairman has been designated by Speaker McCarthy as a leader of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, released the following statement:

“This only shows that Donald Trump is still pulling all the strings of the House Republicans. But on what grounds would they impeach President Biden? On the same phony grounds as Trump would have ‘locked up’ Hillary Clinton, because he needs cover for his own illegalities. And realizing that another Republican government shutdown would cost our economy billions of dollars, Speaker McCarthy desperately points to an impeachment inquiry in his pleas to fellow extremists to keep the government open.”

“While there is truly no silver lining to this troubling development, at least it will slow Republicans in promoting the rest of their extremist agenda, such as a national ban on some types of women’s healthcare and their eagerness to bestow even more tax breaks on the ultra-wealthy.”
