Rep. Doggett’s Statement on Securing Assistance for Ukraine and Taiwan, While Not Being Complicit with the Policies of Benjamin Netanyahu

Washington, D.C.—Yesterday,U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) released the following statement regarding his vote on Supplemental Appropriations bills:

“Today’s vote is a victory for freedom over fear.  At long last, we have overcome Trump-inspired obstruction by authorizing essential military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine to successfully resist the Russian onslaught. Since last year, we have measured the delay in days, but Ukrainians measure it in lives lost.  Also important is approval of seizing Russian state assets to compensate Ukraine for at least some of Putin’s war crimes. 

“Our inclusion of Indo-Pacific support including aid to Taiwan sends a necessary message to China.  Unfortunately, the Israel legislation was lacking. While strongly supporting Israel’s right of self-defense, I believe that providing Netanyahu more offensive weapons will only heighten the already unjustifiable death toll of women and children in Gaza. To ensure long-term security for Israel as a Jewish state, we must end the cycle of violence and renew the peace process, working toward a separate Palestinian state. We need bolder action from President Biden to halt the killing and prevent a much wider Middle East war.”
