Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Ranking Member of the House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee, released the following statement following the Biden Administration’s announcement of finalized minimum nurse staffing standards:
“Finally overcoming industry influence, the Biden Administration has made modest improvements to new minimum nurse staffing standards. While much more is needed to ensure sufficient care and resident safety, I am pleased that this represents some hope of better care for vulnerable nursing residents with complex medical needs. I will continue to work with the more than 100 colleagues who joined me in urging stronger requirements to deliver the very best care to our aging and disabled family members.”
Last November, Rep. Doggett led more than 100 Members in submitting comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to strengthen and finalize the proposed Minimum Staffing Standards for Long-Term Care (LTC) Facilities and Medicaid Institutional Payment Transparency Reporting rule. Their letter can be read here.
