Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) released the following statement regarding House adoption of a 45-day stopgap funding bill over the objection of 90 House Republicans:
“This is an important victory to save Americans the harm of another Republican shutdown. In his underhanded effort to snooker Democrats, Speaker McCarthy appears to have snookered his own Republicans. This resolution gives us 99% of what we have long sought to continue government operations at current levels rather than the slash and burn approach Republicans have been demanding. Before reaching their new deadline in 45 days, we must work to achieve full-year funding and overcome Putin’s little helpers in the House to ensure Ukraine all the resources it requires to defeat Russian aggression.”
