Austin, TX—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) announced $1,879,156 in federal funding for the People’s Community Clinic he helped secure through the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program. The funds will support essential operational costs enabling the clinic to continue offering comprehensive primary care services across service delivery sites.

“For decades, People’s Community Clinic has delivered affordable health care for people who are our neighbors,” said Rep. Doggett. “From primary and dental care to behavioral health, family planning services and more, People’s serves over 20,000 disadvantaged Central Texans annually. Like funds I previously secured to upgrade its electronic medical records, this federal investment will support the effective leadership of CEO Regina Rogoff and her team to do more to improve the health of more of our neighbors.”

“We are thrilled to learn HRSA has funded People’s Community Clinic’s Service Area Competition application and thank Congressman Doggett for his support of community healthcare,” said Regina Rogoff, CEO of People’s Community Clinic. “People’s has served as a Federally Qualified Health Center under HRSA’s Health Center Program since 2014 and this was a competitive application year for us. There is a significant unmet need for health care in our service area and across the region. These funds play a critical role in our ability to serve more than 20,000 Central Texans annually and continue evolving alongside our growing community.”

Founded in 1970, the People’s Community Clinic served mostly college students and part-time workers before expanding operations to meet the growing demand for primary care amongst the uninsured and medically underserved. Today, the clinic employs 300 medical and administrative personnel, with programs ranging from pediatrics, adolescent, adult, dental, prenatal and family planning, and other programs and services. HRSA’s Health Center Program provides funding to about 1,400 community health centers nationwide, which run more than 15,000 service sites in cities and rural areas. These local clinics provide medical, dental, mental health, substance use, and other health care needs to vulnerable people and groups, such as those experiencing homelessness or living in public housing and veterans. According to recent data(link is external), in 2022, more than 30.5 million people sought out care at HRSA-funding health centers, including one in nine children.
