Austin, Texas—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) announced that Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will receive $39.51 million from the Infrastructure Law to advance airport expansion and make the passenger process more efficient.

“Great news: Thanks to the Infrastructure Law, the Austin airport is receiving over $39 million toward designing the expansion of the Barbara Jordan Terminal and its new 20 gate midfield Concourse B. This is an important step forward to advance this much-needed airport expansion,” said Congressman Doggett. “In order for Austin to remain an international city—a true hub of education, culture, and technology—we must be properly equipped to support world-class endeavors and worldwide visitors. While essential expansion and development will eventually require substantially more, our airport has now already received over $100 million through the Infrastructure Law, approved with my support over the objection of every Texas Republican in both the House and Senate.”

Specifically, $14.25 million will go toward funding the design of the airport’s new 20 gate midfield Concourse B and related infrastructure to meet the airport’s long-term passenger activity level demand. The project is a significant enabling component and early phase of Austin’s Airport Expansion and Development Program, which includes all passenger and tenant spaces, passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling system expansion, apron support spaces, back of the house, baggage makeup, tug and other support spaces, and all related aircraft apron expansion and underground utilities, such as an in-pavement hydrant fueling system. The project also entails the construction of a new subgrade tunnel that will connect the Barbara Jordan Terminal interface with the new Concourse B and include the capability of expanding to a new Concourse C.

Additionally, $25.26 million will fund the infill of the current Barbara Jordan Terminal’s atrium with a concrete slab on the ticketing/concourse level, adding approximately 13,000 square feet. This will accommodate more passengers transiting through the terminal by creating more space for security screening, baggage check and passenger processing. It will also include upgrades of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as needed.

Last Congress, Rep. Doggett, along with Congressional Democrats and President Biden, championed the Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, to make a historic investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness. With more than $29 billion delivered to Texas since the law passed, these investments will help rebuild roads, bridges and rails, upgrade and expand public transit, modernize ports and airports, improve safety, tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice and invest in communities that have too often been left behind.
