Relief Now for Dreamers, Duty for Senate to Finally Pass Dream and Promise Act

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chair of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's decision this morning to block President Trump's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"For one hundred thousand young Texans, whose futures have been unjustly attacked by Trump, today represents a jubilant victory; for Congress, it's a strong and urgent call to overdue action. The Supreme Court has rightfully ruled against Trump's cruel attempt to end protections for these young people—American citizens in everything but some papers. Even as we celebrate that their lives will not be upended by this particular collusion between Texas Republicans and Trump, Trump tweets that he is already planning a new attack.

Let's keep urging Senate Republicans to stop blocking our Dream and Promise Act, which was approved over a year ago by the House. Congress must finally pass a permanent solution that provides a path to citizenship—and reject convoluted proposals that hold these young peoples' futures hostage for a wall or an anti-immigrant wish list."
