Press Conference Kicking Off Tax Season: Many Central Texans Qualify for Free Tax Assistance and Tax Refunds

Washington, D.C. – As tax season begins and Foundation Communities opens next week for free, unbiased tax preparation assistance for Central Texans, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin), senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, will join Foundation Communities, Council Member José Miguel Anwar Velásquez, and community leaders to urge Central Texans to file with free help, ensuring they claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible—like, for many Austin working parents, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

More families accessing credits and tax refunds means more money for them and millions more for our local economy. Ahead of Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day, Rep. Doggett and other speakers will break down how to sign up for free, bilingual, unbiased help in filing taxes, the advantages of doing it now, and how to ensure that working families do not leave money on the table when filing their taxes this season.
