More Trump Doubletalk on Drug Prices
Washington, D.C. – This afternoon, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chairman of the House Ways & Means Health Subcommittee, released this statement immediately following President Trump's remarks regarding drug pricing measures:
"Today's announcement offers little more relief from soaring prescription prices than Trump's September announcement of $200 drug cards, which he never delivered. By delaying until the end of his Presidency taking action he could have undertaken at the beginning, Trump offers an invitation to legal challenges—not a guarantee of relief from price gouging. And the most important order remains missing: lower prices for drugs developed with taxpayer dollars, including COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. Trump is a loser not only in this election, but in failing for his entire presidency to lower drug prices for anyone. One positive signal from Trump's misleading announcement is to President-elect Biden, who is clearly empowered to take effective administrative action to actually lower drug prices for many next year."
