San Antonio, Texas – Today, local arts leaders, Highlands Principal Dr. Julio C. Garcia, and art teacher Rachel Alvarado joined a celebration for Yiovanna Plascencia, a junior at Highlands High School in San Antonio, who was announced as the winner of U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett's (D-San Antonio) annual Congressional High School Art Competition.
Yiovanna's original piece, A New Beginning, featured a 3-dimensional representation of roses blooming from an aging book. It will hang in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. for a full year, providing her with national exposure as she represents San Antonio. Yiovanna's artistic gifts showcase the wonderful talents here locally and the bright future of our San Antonio arts community. After high school, she hopes to study to become a kindergarten teacher.
