Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) announced that he has secured $850,000 in federal appropriations to go directly to People's Community Clinic in Austin to fuel their transition to a new electronic health record (EHR) system for all patients—helping this longtime provider of top-notch care deliver comprehensive information to equip its providers and patients alike. The clinic is a unique and tested model for medical care, a true safety net for Central Texas’ uninsured and medically underserved.
“The dedicated, world-class People’s providers who serve Central Texans so well—here in our tech hub of Austin—should themselves be served by top-notch technology, to reduce health inequities in our community and build stronger health for all,” said Congressman Lloyd Doggett. “People’s Community Clinic delivers life-changing care to our neighbors; these new funds can facilitate more effective delivery of critical health information serving patients and providers alike.”
Over half a century, People’s has grown into a comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally-sensitive health care center for low-income individuals living in Central Texas. The clinic has earned a reputation for operating at the highest standards of care and employing best practices to serve vulnerable populations—becoming a Federally-Qualified Health Center in 2012 and being recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee on Quality Assurance since 2014. As the clinic has grown to serve more than 20,100 patients a year, the need for a robust and integrated EHR has become more apparent.
“This is another positive step forward for People’s Community Clinic and an important investment in the Central Texas community,” said Regina Rogoff, Chief Executive Officer of People’s Community Clinic. “We are grateful to Rep. Doggett for his leadership in securing funds that will enhance People’s use of electronic health records for our patient’s care. This upgrade will ensure that our medical teams have complete and up-to-date information for each patient they serve, and allow them to continue to deliver the high-quality care we strive to provide.”
