Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chair of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, announced today that he has secured $1.6 million in federal appropriations to fund critical infrastructure for economic expansion in Buda in a new bill just signed into law by President Biden.

“This federal funding will open 70 acres as a strategic priority area for economic development by providing wastewater service for the first time,” said Rep. Doggett. “This $1.6 million will supplement efforts by the City of Buda, which faces so many costly demands in such a rapidly-growing community. It is funding that can go directly—and quickly—toward foundational infrastructure for businesses along a new commercial corridor to serve our neighbors and create more local jobs.”

This new service will pair with the new expanded Robert S. Light Boulevard to create a new commercial corridor. The project is expected to expand the City of Buda’s sewer system and create an important commercial avenue.

“Hays County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S., and Buda is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas,” said John Hatch, Chair of the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce. “Congressman Doggett’s support in getting this $1.6 million will enable us to handle a major part of water and wastewater needs, without placing the financial burden on the homeowners and businesses through property taxes. This is the biggest direct appropriation Buda has ever received, and it will be a big help as we continue to grow and create more local jobs.”
