Doggett Reacts to Donald Trump’s Indictment & Arraignment

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) issued this statement following the arraignment of Donald Trump in New York:

“After four troubling years, we know that Trump is an habitual liar.  Now an impartial jury will determine whether he is also an habitual criminal offender.  While the evidence is substantial, our system of justice – where all are equal before the law – provides him with an opportunity to offer his defense. To his GOP allies, who continue claiming Trump’s misconduct is inconsequential, these serious felony charges include a conspiracy to prevent an informed electorate; they go to the heart of our democracy.  And how ironic that this “hush” money case required the Judge to warn Trump to hush up from making further threats of violence such as picturing himself with a baseball bat next to the DA and claiming “death and destruction” could result from his prosecution.  I saw first-hand the death and destruction Trump could wreak on January 6.”
