Washington, D.C. –U.S. House Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), spoke on the House floor last night during debate on the bill he introduced with Rep. Blumenauer, the Suspending Energy Imports from Russia Act.

“Putin thought he could divide us because the last President served Russian interests so very well—fawning over Putin, unrelenting criticism of our allies, undermining allies, preferring Putin’s word over American patriots, repeatedly pitting one American against another,” said Rep. Doggett. “And recently, as Putin amassed tanks on the Ukrainian border, President Biden was not the one who held this action as ‘genius.’ As Putin ordered troops into Ukraine, it wasn’t Biden who called Putin’s terror a ‘peacekeeping mission,’ who then called Putin ‘very savvy.’ And, last Friday, as Russian bombs were killing hundreds of Ukrainians, it was not Biden’s advisor who said that Putin had been ‘too gentle,’ who called President Zelensky a ‘puppet,’ and blamed him for failing to appease Putin. As President Biden has tried to unite, Trump and his cronies cannot stop licking Putin’s boots—even as Putin was using those boots to kick Ukrainians in the teeth…Let’s stand and unite with Ukrainian patriots and approve this bill.”

This came after Rep. Doggett’s initial House floor speech, providing details and urging support for his legislation to ban Russian oil, press for Russia to be expelled from the World Trade Organization (WTO), and hold human rights abusers accountable.

Later last night, the House voted 414-17 to pass the Doggett-Blumenauer legislation, in a show of united support for Ukraine. It now awaits Senate action.
