Washington, D.C. – This morning, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) is announcing that Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will receive an additional $15 million from the new Infrastructure Law to advance airport expansion. These funds will go toward increasing the square footage of the Barbara Jordan Terminal to meet growing passenger demand, including new aircraft gates and passenger waiting spaces, enhanced TSA security checkpoints, new passenger boarding bridges as well improving way-finding, accessibility and more.

“Great news: The infrastructure law we successfully approved over opposition from every other Central Texas member is now also successfully marshalling funds right here to Austin to begin making our much-needed airport expansion plans a reality,” said Congressman Doggett.  “In order for Austin to be the international city—the hub of education, culture, and technology—that I know we are, our institutions and our infrastructure must be properly equipped to support world-class endeavors and worldwide visitors.”

“While our most immediate need has been for more Transportation Service Administration (TSA) resources to prevent more long lines and baggage issues,” Doggett continued, “these infrastructure funds will help in expanding our airport to meet the demands of both our growing population and our growing role as an international gateway city.”

This $15 million is in addition to $17.3 million in funding from the infrastructure law already provided to Austin-Bergstrom late last year. Today’s new funding is from the Airport Terminal Program.

The Infrastructure Law championed by congressional Democrats and President Biden, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, makes a historic investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness. It will rebuild America’s roads, bridges and rails, upgrade and expand public transit, modernize the nation’s ports and airports, improve safety, tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice and invest in communities that have too often been left behind.
