WOAI News 4: Over $700 million in relief funds expected to be awarded to San Antonio area governments
SAN ANTONIO - Big relief is expected to hit the San Antonio area pending Wednesday's final House vote on the American Rescue Plan.
According to Congressmen Lloyd Doggett (D-San Antonio) announced Tuesday if the House passes the vote, then more than $700 million in COVID-19 relief funds are expected to come to San Antonio-area local governments once the packages is signed.
The rescue plan also includes a direct stimulus payment, an extension for unemployment benefits, a temporary increase in the child tax credit, $7.25 billion in new money for PPP, the small-business loan program, specific allocations to the Small Business Administration for grants to independent restaurants and other food and drinking establishments, and many other provisions set to assist Texas industries hit hard by this pandemic.
Put into perspective, here are the estimated direct relief funds expected for the following areas:
- San Antonio - $326.58 million
- New Braunfels - $10.3 million
- Bexar County - $388.58 million
"With our local leaders overcoming state failure after state failure, along with those from the Trump Administration, I am so pleased to announce that over half a billion dollars in reinforcements for their efforts are expected to come home directly to our local governments from this rescue package," said Congressman Doggett. "This rescue plan rises to the tremendous needs of this moment, to directly provide aid not only to the families and businesses suffering in this crisis, but also to our local governments that have been shouldering so much of the burden of leadership."
