News 4/WOAI: Texas congressman says shutting down the border 'makes no sense'
Democratic Texas congressman Lloyd Doggett disagrees with President Donald Trump's approach to the borer.
Doggett said a border shutdown "makes no sense at all" and would unhinge the entire Texas economy.
"I've come to the conclusion that the President is not as eager to build a wall as he is to have an ongoing fight about the wall," Doggett said. "I hope he doesn't do too much damage to the Texas economy and more in the process."
Texas congressman Lloyd Doggett spoke to us about the crisis happening at the southern border.
Doggett said it makes no sense to push back against immigrants seeking asylum in the United States.
"These people are not terrorists," Doggett said. "They are people who are trying to escape terrorism from domestic gangs and the like. We need an orderly system to process their asylum claims and see if they're legitimate."
