Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) joined Foundation Communities, Councilwoman Vanessa Fuentes, and Austin parent and recent Texas State graduate Cristina Guajardo to mark the first day of Child Tax Credit (CTC) payments. They explained who can expect payments automatically and how much is coming—as well as how parents who do not normally file a tax return can ensure they do not miss out on these important payments and get free, bilingual help from Foundation Communities. Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, joined by over 50 Members, and with leadership from U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Danny Davis (D-IL), introduced bipartisan legislation removing a major financial and logistical barrier to students securing higher education opportunities. The Tax Free Pell Grants Act expands the usage of Pell Grants on a tax-free basis, improves coordination with the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) and ensures students don’t lose out on any AOTC benefits. More than a decade ago, Rep. Doggett authored provisions that ensures that the AOTC allows a tax cut of up to $10,000 on education expenses, such as tuition, textbooks and fees.

AUSTIN, Texas - The Live Music Capital of the World went quiet when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. As the music scene has slowly started to come back to life over the past year, a few Austin venues have continued to keep their doors shut.
"We were the first to close, and we're the last to reopen," said Jeannette Gregor, the first employee to be re-hired at Mohawk Austin and now the venue manager.
