Washington, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, reacted to a new, nonpartisan U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealing persistent failure to identify and prevent instances of fraud, waste, and abuse by Affordable Care Act Marketplace agents and brokers.
“As Republicans allege fraud in the Affordable Care Act as an excuse to deny millions of Americans access to a family physician, GAO has released shocking findings about Trump permissiveness toward ACA fraudsters,” said Rep. Doggett. “In May, the Trump regime reinstated 850 agents and brokers, who had been suspended for ‘reasonable suspicion of fraud.’ Trump’s condoning this wrongdoing is similar to his pardoning multiple other convicted health care criminals, whom he also protected from paying millions of dollars owed to those they defrauded. Yelling “fraud” while empowering fraudsters only shows the total hypocrisy of the Trump regime and its Congressional enablers. If, as indicated in their reaction to this alarming report, Republicans want to act on fraud, they can begin by demanding that the Trump regime begin policing fraudsters and stop signaling that criminals committing fraud will be pardoned. Millions of Americans need action from this Congress now, to prevent spiking premiums and stop Trump indifference to protecting taxpayer funds.”
