A Shift from Do-Nothing to Do-Little
Washington, D.C. – As pandemic unemployment assistance ends and the pandemic deepens, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, reacted to Senator McConnell's outline of legislation that Republicans have yet failed to introduce:
"Republicans have taken 10 weeks to move from do-nothing to do little. At this late date, after the last supplemental unemployment check has been issued, Republicans still fail to offer any specific legislation, only more talk and a vague outline. ‘Wait till next week' is no reassurance to families living meal-to-meal, wondering how they'll make the rent or the car payment. Total omission of any state and local government assistance, which Republican governors and mayors also eagerly seek, is merely a negotiating tactic designed to encourage Democrats to accept a little government funding in return for yielding on our efforts to provide relief from huge health care bills crushing the uninsured."
