Doggett on Trump Delayed Approval of "Disgraceful" Relief Bill
Washington, D.C. – One week ago today, President Trump's designated representative approved the COVID relief bill including $600 in direct payments to eligible Americans. The next day, Trump condemned that bill as a "disgrace." Yesterday, he finally signed the same "disgraceful" bill. After voting this afternoon to increase relief payments to $2,000, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) released this statement:
"All that Trump's chaotic delay has accomplished is the denial of one week of unemployment compensation to millions of desperate Americans, unemployed through no fault of their own. Other than a few tweets and harsh words, Trump has done nothing to increase direct relief payments, which the House is approving today over Republican objections and which the Republican Senate Leader will block."
