Biden Plans Builds Climate, Economic, and Tax Justice

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) applauds President Biden's American Jobs Plan—unveiled this afternoon—for its progress on investing in our infrastructure, building sustainable jobs, prioritizing climate action, and improving tax fairness. He is particularly pleased with the inclusion of key provisions of Rep. Doggett's bill, the No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing Act.

"This bill is about both highways and highway robbery of our Treasury, as too many dodge their responsibility to pay for our national security and other vital services," said Congressman Doggett. "The plan cracks down on corporate tax-dodging—and that will help fuel and fund the roads, jobs, clean energy, and broadband that American families have long needed. President Biden is embracing major provisions of the No Tax Breaks for Outsourcing bill that I have long urged and which has now been cosponsored by over 100 House colleagues. These will remove Trump-GOP created tax incentives that encourage large, profitable multinationals to ship jobs and profits abroad."

Further, Congressman Doggett praised the progress the plan makes in investing in sustainable infrastructure that combats climate change and better prepares us for future success, including investment in electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, for which Rep. Doggett has long advocated.

"In Texas, this permits us to respond to the climate crisis ignored by the fossilized thinking of our state leaders," continued Congressman Doggett. "New grid funds should be for innovation, not another bailout, for Governor Abbott's longtime failure to require weatherization. With the digital divide during the pandemic intensifying the harm to poor students, this bill offers hope. Hurricane and flood protection, drinking water and water resources are vital additions in Texas, where the water often comes all at once or not at all. Significant transportation provisions incentivize electric vehicles and build systems that reduce greenhouse gas pollution such as ongoing public transportation initiatives in Austin and San Antonio."
