WOAI: Congressman Lloyd Doggett calls stimulus package for COVID-19 a necessary burden
SAN ANTONIO- Congressman Lloyd Doggett gave his thoughts on why the stimulus package was necessary for areas suffering from COVID-19.
Late Friday afternoon, President Trump signed a $2.2 trillion bill, thus not only throwing a life preserver to the failing a U.S. economy and health care system left flailing by the coronavirus pandemic, but also signing one of the biggest emergency bills in American history.
During a Skype interview the same day, Congressman Doggett said the $2 trillion for the emergency package is a big burden on the nation, but it's something that's desperately needed.
"I don't think we have much choice but to respond. We can't keep small businesses afloat and we can't keep our unemployed workers where they can't put food on the table."
Congressman Doggett also said he's hearing estimates of what could be up to 14% unemployment rates in Bexar county.
