Trump Tax Returns

Weather interference with my morning flight from Austin has significantly delayed my gaining access to whatever materials Ways and Means Committee Chair Neal is making available pursuant to section 6103.  However, in reviewing extensive prior New York Times (NYT) reporting, much of the story about Trump tax shenanigans including 10 of 15 years paying no taxes and various foreign entanglements has already been told.

Chair Neal made a narrow request when he eventually filed suit in July 2019, and in order to get a ruling from a Trump-appointed District Judge, he narrowed that request even further. NYT apparently had access to all of the returns to which Chair Neal obtained access except for those covering tax years 2018, 2019, & 2020. These were filed at a time after which Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg has previously indicated Trump was cleaning up his business practices in anticipation of the increased scrutiny of a Presidential campaign. NYT reviewed many more years of returns and many more of the Trump 500+ business entities than the eight Trump Organization entities for which Neal requested access. NYT does show the need for thorough IRS audits, oversight of which is the very proper justification for the Neal request.

Review of any newly provided documents may allow determination of how well IRS performed, any Trump obstruction, and confirmation of NYT findings.  But I am not expecting to discover any big, new bombshells, especially given the very limited review opportunity.
