Rep. Doggett: Republican Indifference Endangering Children
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Ranking Member of the Ways & Means Tax Policy Subcommittee, spoke on the House Floor in support of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which Republicans let expire at the end of September. Rep. Doggett said:
"The Children's Health Insurance Program began as a truly bipartisan initiative, but now it is overwhelmed by Republican indifference, endangering children. So low is it on their priority list that they let the law expire… 400,000 Texas children are at risk if this program is not be continued. In the face of this crisis, their response is – we won't put another new dollar in this program unless we take it from Medicare beneficiaries."
