Transparency Demands More: Congressman Doggett Statement on the Barr Letter

Washington, DC — In reaction to the letter from Attorney General Barr on Special Counsel Mueller’s report, Congressman Doggett released the below statement:

“Transparency demands much more than a four-page summary—by a Trump appointee—regarding two years of investigative work. While it took only hours for him to declare Trump innocent, Trump’s Attorney General has yet to disclose the Mueller report and the underlying evidence.

“The public interest is not served by his excuses and delay. The entire report should be delivered this week. If any portions of it are blackened out from view, he should share information on the substance and justification for each redaction with the appropriate Congressional committees. Even the grand jury testimony could be promptly released by court order in the public interest.”

Last month, Congressman Doggett joined Congressman Cicilline to author legislation to ensure that the Attorney General cannot impede public release of a Special Counsel’s report. The Special Counsel Transparency Act is the House companion to a bill introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).
