Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), Chair of the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, led over 40 Democratic House Members from States which have refused to expand Medicaid coverage in introducing the Cover Outstanding Vulnerable Expansion-Eligible Residents Now (COVER Now) Act. This landmark legislation authorizes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to work directly with counties, cities, and other political subdivisions to expand Medicaid coverage. It would, for the first time, allow local leaders to help their vulnerable residents in States which have declined to accept federal resources for Medicaid expansion. Standing together in front of the U.S. Capitol, cosponsors held a press conference this morning.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX), with Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), led a group of 20 lawmakers to introduce the Green Transportation Act. This legislation directs cities and states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. This sector represents the single largest source of carbon pollution in the United States, which makes tracking and reducing those emissions an urgent priority in mitigating the climate crisis. Because many parts of the country are not accounting for transportation emissions, this represents an important step in working to reduce pollution by mandating the tracking of emissions and creation of local implementation plans. The bill would help deliver President Biden’s goal of reducing U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Jack Reed (D-RI), along with U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX-35), today announced the introduction of a bill to stop business practices known as inversions – corporate deals that allow U.S. companies to shift their corporate citizenship from the United States to a low-tax foreign jurisdiction, while keeping their executives and headquarters in the United States. This is accomplished by merging with a foreign company that can be as little as one-fifth of the size of the U.S. corporation and results in large and permanent tax breaks. Unlike other tax loopholes that can be closed on a year-to-year basis, a tax inversion is a permanent change in a corporation’s structure.
