Washington—Today, U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett was presented with the Child Welfare League of America’s Advocate of the Year award for his work on behalf of children as Ranking Democrat of the Human Resources Subcommittee. Specifically, the League praised his work on the Protect Our Kids Act, a new law to establish a national commission to develop recommendations to reduce child abuse and neglect.
“This issue is particularly important to me,” Rep. Doggett said. “Texas has the highest rate of child abuse and neglect fatalities in the nation. We are aware that there are so many, many children across the country who lose their lives or are permanently scarred by abuse from a caretaker. This commission provides us with the opportunity to take an important step forward in developing a national strategy to protect our most vulnerable children from violence.”
